New Vests

When I was packing to move to Qld I decided I would never use my huge collection of woven wool material.  I gave it ALL away, to my sister, to friends and friends of friends.  It was lovely to do.

But... my first winter here and I realized I wanted it - it's cold enough for a vest most evenings and many of my customers are from the southern states anyway.  I told my sister that I had moments of regret over giving it away and she, lovely darling that she is, SENT IT UP, in a big box.

Going through the box was like re-uniting with old friends.  And now I've started chopping them up and making stuff.  Here it is...

The buttons aren't sewn on yet (I think black with white thread for this one) and the vests all need to be washed to get the edges fuzzed, and they need an iron.  I have difficulty photographing them before they sell and I had a window of opportunity...

This is a wool crepe so the edges will fuzz nicely.

The edges of this will be paler when washed.

Blue and green silk vest with red button brooch - not the best choice I now think.

That's the most of them so far.  But I've got some ripper checks and others to come.

The backdrop behind the pictures is a curtain length I found at the Neighbour's Aid op shop this morning (while looking for black buttons).  It is shockingly synthetic but the print is so gorgeous - it looks contemporary but it's way old.

I also found some material!  Rare in op shops round here - unless you like polyester and some crazy pinky red big buttons that look like lollies, mmmm.

The grey/black stripe will be long sleeve cardigans in the orange and green vest style, the stripy wool is soft and possibly very special it will most likely be a wrap vest or two, and the green cord maybe a tunic.

Happy making to all that do and happy wearing to those who will :-) xx.
